Staying Positive and Challenging Negative Thoughts: A Webinar on Positive Mindset for Stress Management

In this wellbeing webinar, Helen Stephens and Jennie Flower explore ways in which we can stay positive and actively challenge our negative thoughts.  In today’s world of uncertainties, where each day can bring new challenges, it’s only natural that we experience ups and downs. We acknowledge that minimising our response to stress can be challenging at times and ways in which we can foster a positive mindset for stress management.

This webinar, originally recorded during lockdown, was designed to help us navigate these turbulent waters and is as poignant now on Stress Awareness Day as it was then.  Here we shed light on the power of our thoughts and how they influence our feelings and behaviours.  We recognise the difficulties that many of us are facing, and we provide hints and tips to help us stay positive and prevent falling into a negative spiral of thoughts, which can be damaging to our wellbeing.

How can we stay positive and challenge negative thoughts?

Here are some key insights we share:

The Thought-Feeling-Behaviour Connection: Discover how our thoughts have a profound impact on our emotions and actions. Understand how our thoughts can sometimes be irrational and exaggerated, leading to unnecessary stress.

The Power of Mindfulness: Learn how to notice and challenge our thoughts. By actively engaging with our inner dialogue, we can take away their power and regain control over our stress response.

Embracing Imperfection: Understand that it’s okay not to be positive all the time. We’re all human, and it’s normal to experience a range of emotions. One key takeaway from the webinar is to be kind to ourselves and embrace our imperfections.

To equip you with practical tools to break the cycle of negative thinking and minimise your response to stress, we explore strategies such as:

  • Distract: Focus on positive emotions to shift your perspective and mood
  • Refocus and Rewire: Use mindfulness techniques to recenter yourself and rewire your thought patterns
  • Acceptance: Acknowledge what you cannot control and find peace in letting go
  • Active Challenge: Confront and challenge negative thoughts with a rational and compassionate mindset
  • Reframing: Learn to see situations from a different, more positive angle

Join us on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Let’s work together to foster resilience and a positive mindset for minimising our response to stress during these challenging times. We hope you’ll leave this webinar armed with the tools to face life’s uncertainties with strength, compassion, and optimism. Remember, we’re all in this together, and together, we can thrive.
